“Land of Illusion” Machinima

RMB City Blog: “Land of Illusion” Machinima

by Gianna Yebut, June 12, 2009 @ 10:13 pm

Going back to the concept of ‘heterotopy’ (other space), today I’ve come upon a beautiful machinima entitled ‘Land of Illusion’ by Beijing media artists Lily Xiying Yang and Honglei Li (杨熙瑛, 李宏磊).

It’s a very dense and multilayered tale about freedom of thought and cultural isolation and… Continue

Thanks. The tower is derived from Pinocchio, and I am making a series of projects related to fairy tales for my final thesis in RISD. Uploading them soon and looking forward your comment. And I like your works very much, especially those VR work.

It's an impressive project, very close to my ideas on post-literature, but unfortunately I decided to focus in the near future on art/painting and writing novels...

Thanks, dear friends, for this amazing opportunity, but unfortunately in April 2009 I have a solo exhibition at Dalype Gallery in Oslo, that's why my works could be only presented online elswhere.

Good luck!

Thanks, UMass is a true dream for a Romanian artist. You are right, my Archetypal Expressionism Group has 43 international artists, but only another young artist is from Romania (but there are 9 visual artists from USA).

Lily & Honglei ...

You presented such a beautiful and profound body of work that touched at the emotional core of Chinese and cultural heritage. Serene even during some of the most violent, dark moments. Sensitive. Drawing from ancient folktales, universally known by those born and raised in China ... the work, both in Lily's Second Life virtual performance pieces and in Honglei's animation from large-scale oil paintings, depicted a sense of story, texture and space at once timeless and distant while touching on the fundamental nature of human and cultural nature to open up and engage each and every one of us through an introverted self-reflection.

Fantastic work. Fantastic talk. Thank you for sharing your stories and your art with us tonight.
